Argentina’s Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has been jailed for 12 years in a corruption case. A court of the country sentenced the veteran politician to prison on Saturday (August 27) on charges of embezzling public funds and defrauding the state during his tenure as president.
Supporters of Vice President Christina took to the streets to protest the court’s verdict. Thousands of people took to the streets of the capital Buenos Aires to protest immediately after the verdict was announced on Saturday.
They claim that Christina has been tortured in the name of justice. Protesters clashed with the police during the protest.
Several people were also injured.
Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was the president from 2007 to 2015. At that time, lawyers filed a case against Christina for diverting government funds and defrauding the state. After the trial of the case, the court sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment.
