BCB ponders extending contracts of coaching staff till World T20I 2022

Majority of the coaching staff were appointed till the upcoming World T20I this year, which will now be extended until the World T20I 2022

Bangladesh Cricket Board is in discussions with the national team coaching staff over extension of their individual contracts.

Majority of the coaching staff were appointed till the upcoming World T20I this year, which will now be extended until the World T20I 2022.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan while speaking to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Sunday informed of the development.

The discussions also involves contract extension of head coach Russell Domingo.

Though BCB cricket operation committee chairman Akram Khan had told the media that the contract with Domingo will be extended till the 2023 50-over World Cup, Nazmul stated differently.

“We are yet to take a final decision on extension of the contracts for the national coaching staff. All of them are signed till this World T20I. We are thinking of having one-year extension. We have two World Cups to play, so we are focusing on these for now,” said Nazmul.

Bangladesh team with Domingo as head coach since August 2019 have played 47 matches across all formats and lost 21.

In 10 Tests the team won two games, won 11 out of 15 ODIs and 12 among 22 T20Is.

BCB last week handed former South African cricketer Ashwell Prince full time charge as the national batting coach.

Prince was earlier appointed to work with the team only for the tour of Zimbabwe and with positive feedback, the board appointed Prince for the role till the 2022 World T20I.

Bangladesh currently have Ottis Gibson as the fast bowling coach, Ryan Cook as the fielding coach, Rangana Herath as spin bowling coach and Nick Lee as strength and conditioning coach.
