Corona vaccine to protect pregnant and lactating mothers

A global vaccination campaign to combat the Corona epidemic is in full swing. Our country is not backward either. Our government has taken initiative to bring all the people of the country under the vaccination program.

The number of attacks and deaths in the country due to the Delta variant is on the rise. Pregnant mothers are also suffering from corona and are dying. Pregnant women are at high risk; They have to be hospitalized, taken to ICU and given ventilator as soon as they are infected. Above all, death.

Pregnant and lactating mothers should be included in the vaccination program to avoid the risk of corona.

Pregnant women are naturally at risk. A large part of our population is this pregnant woman. Special care should be taken for the pregnant woman and her unborn child during coronary heart disease. Coronavirus can be life threatening for both mother and baby. The number of premature baby deliveries is multiplied when pregnant women are infected with corona.

At this time they are at risk of other viral / bacterial infections. So women at risk need to be vaccinated. Now the question arises, whether pregnant women can get the corona vaccine; If you can, you can get any vaccine at any stage of pregnancy.. As a result, we do not know how effective these vaccines are, how safe they are and how protective they can be.

Recently, the CDC in the United States, the FDA, and the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) in the United Kingdom recommended corona vaccination for pregnant women. There is a study behind this recommendation. The results of a study of 35,000 pregnant women were recently published in The New England Journal of Medicine. The study shows:

The study included Pfizer and Modern vaccines.

Therefore, the vaccine of this company is safe for pregnant women and it is recommended to take the corona vaccine any time after the first 12 weeks.

The UK Authority JCVI, RCOG has recently been recommending for vaccination of breastfeeding mothers. They have Safety Data in their hands; ; Those antibodies go into the baby’s body and boost the baby’s immune system. No part of the vaccine, such as spike proteins and antigens, enters the baby’s body.

In the light of this study and some other small studies

, pregnant women are now being vaccinated against corona in different countries. But keep in mind that the vaccination program is based on a Post Vaccine Surveillance study; There has been no clinical trial of ticks on pregnant women. The third phase of the Pfizer vaccine clinical trial is currently being conducted in 10 hospitals in the UK and we will have to wait another 2-3 months to get the results of this trial.

Like 180 countries in the world, Bangladesh is now celebrating ‘World Breastfeeding Day’ (August 1-6).

The health department has also taken appropriate steps to vaccinate pregnant and lactating mothers. We express our gratitude and appreciation to all the departments and institutions concerned for this. Hopefully, soon this vaccination program will save the lives of pregnant and lactating mothers from the Corona epidemic.
