Do you ever go back to school or work after a weekend of lounging on the couch binge-watching Netflix and find yourself struggling get back into the work mindset? Sometimes keeping your mind active over these breaks is the best way to make your Mondays a little easier when it comes time to get back to work. If studying or reading over the weekend isn’t your idea of fun, here are a few ideas for exciting things to do on your time off that keep you thinking and staying sharp.
Just last weekend I tried doing an escape room for the first time, and I’m already itching to go back! I severely underestimated the difficulty of escaping a single room; an hour wasn’t nearly enough time for us to work through a series of locks, patterns and puzzles standing between us and the door. This activity is great because it gives you the opportunity to have a lot of fun with a group of friends, while also still exercising your ability to think quickly, logically and outside of the box. I highly recommend checking out an escape room next time you’re thinking of spending another weekend in!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with geocaching, this is a fun activity in which you take part in an organized treasure hunt in the great outdoors. Using navigation tools like a GPS or a compass, you follow directions to one of the many geocaches planted all over the world by fellow adventurers. This is a fun way to get outside and keep your mind AND body active as you navigate your way to your next discovery.
Board Game Cafes
If adventuring through the outdoors isn’t for you, there are plenty of ways to stay cozied up inside and still keep your brain sharp. A great way to do this is by visiting a board game cafe with a few friends. This is a great way to enjoy quality time with loved ones and take a break from studying, while still challenging yourself to think through a challenge like chess or Scrabble. With all that brain power you’ll be using, you’ll be thankful there’s caffeine close by!
These are only a few of the ways that I like to keep my mind active and make good use of my time off over breaks, weekends or even a free evening. With a productive and refreshing weekend filled with activities like these, those measly Mondays will no longer pose any challenge to you!
