Honours Admission Test Date Likely Set for April 25

National University says formal notice will be issued soon after final discussions

The Honours Admission Test for the 2025–2026 academic year at the National University is likely to begin on April 25. Vice-Chancellor Professor A.S.M. Amanullah shared this update on Friday (April 3) in a conversation with The Daily Campus.

He said the date is still tentative and under discussion. A final decision will be announced soon through an official notice. Students are advised to wait for the confirmed schedule.

The university plans to follow the same system used last year. Admission tests for undergraduate (honours) programmes will be held using multiple-choice questions (MCQ). This format was reintroduced recently after several years without an admission test.

Data from the University Grants Commission (UGC) shows a large number of vacant seats in recent years. According to the 49th annual report, based on 2022 data, there were 901,545 seats across undergraduate levels. Of these, 704,196 students were admitted, leaving 197,349 seats empty.

At the honours and technical level alone, there were 436,090 seats. Admissions reached 349,715, leaving 86,375 seats vacant. The previous year saw even higher vacancies. In 2021, nearly 396,662 seats remained unfilled across all undergraduate levels.

The return of the admission test is seen as a major policy shift. Until the 2014–15 academic year, students were admitted through tests. From 2015–16, admissions were based on SSC and HSC GPA. This system remained in place for several years.

Last year, the university resumed admission tests after a long gap. Applications for that cycle began on November 23 and continued until March 31 after several extensions.

The upcoming Honours Admission Test Date is important for thousands of applicants across the country. The official notice, expected soon, will confirm the final schedule and detailed instructions for candidates.
