Mohammad Shami, the lone Muslim cricketer in India’s T20 World Cup, is the scapegoat after losing to arch-rivals Pakistan in the World Twenty20. Indian supporters have made racist remarks about Shami through social media. Though India captain Virat Kohli has been silent on the issue for so long, he opened his mouth on Saturday (October 30).
Shami did not take any wicket in the 10-wicket loss against Pakistan, scoring 43 runs in 3.5 overs. Which is the highest run cost for Indian bowlers. So the criticism started with Shami. Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, the India captain said that some people troll on social media. They have no courage, no backbone. We do not listen to what is happening outside. Our only goal is to play well.
In the last few days, thousands of comments have been posted on Shamir’s Instagram account calling him a Pakistani pimp after the loss against Pakistan. Being a Muslim, many are also describing Shami as a pimp of Pakistan. In this regard, Kohli said that the trolling of Shamir’s religion is undoubtedly the most tragic incident.
Pakistan lost to India by 10 wickets on October 24. Babar Azam’s team scored 132 runs in the opening over with the target of 152 runs given by India. Pakistan responded with 151 runs in the opening over at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan scored two and six runs respectively.
Earlier, India had raised fighting capital against Pakistan. Team India made 151 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi won the toss and elected to field. In the fourth ball of the first over, Pakistan fast bowler Rohit Sharma was trapped in the lbw. Rohit returned to the pavilion with a golden call. In the next over, Afridi bowled Lokesh Rahul directly with the ball in hand. Team India fell under a lot of pressure due to his double injury.
After losing three wickets, Virat and Pant tried to cope with the pressure. The duo put together a 54-run stand. Shadab Khan said goodbye to Rishabh who was playing comparatively. Pant made 39 runs off 30 balls. Kohli continued to increase the score even when Pant returned. He completed four fours and one six in 45 balls. At the other end is Rabindra Jadeja. However, Jadeja could not stay at the crease for long. He made 13 off 13 balls and was caught by Mohammad Newaz off Hasan Ali.
Afridi also picked up Kohli, who had become a threat to Pakistan at the end. He left the field with a catch in the hands of wicketkeeper Rizwan. Before returning, he made 58 runs from 49 balls. After that, Hardik Pandya’s 11 and Bhubaneswar Kumar’s 5 helped Virat Kohli’s team reach 151 runs. Afridi took 3 wickets for Pakistan. He scored 31 runs in 4 overs. Hasan Ali took two wickets. Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf took one wicket each.
