India and New Zealand face off in search of their first win in the Super Twelve. In fact, it is a ‘fight for survival’ between the two parties. New Zealand won the toss and elected to field at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (October 31st). In other words, India lost the toss and elected to bat.
Both teams lost their first match against Pakistan. Kiwi pacer Trent Bolt thinks it is possible to win if India’s strong batting line is blocked. And India, which did not win the World Cup against New Zealand, wants to break the old history. Captain Virat Kohli said.
India-New Zealand match means different heat. These two teams are also one of the contenders for the title in this year’s event. Although they have lost their first match. The two teams will face each other in the Super Twelve in the return match. India and New Zealand have a similar place in this World Cup. Both teams lost their first match to Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the team that loses the India-New Zealand match will have a complicated equation waiting for them, even if the road to the semi-finals is open on paper. If India lose today’s match, Kohli will not be guaranteed a ticket to the semi-finals despite winning the remaining three matches of the league (Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia).
In that case, New Zealand will have to lose at least one of the remaining matches (Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia) and still have a complicated calculation of net run rate.
So it can be assumed that the road to the semi-finals is virtually closed in front of the team that loses this match. And so the match between India and New Zealand has become a do-or-die situation. To lose this match means to ring the farewell bell from the World Cup.
On the other hand, India and New Zealand have met a total of 17 times in the International Twenty20 so far. India has won 6 matches. New Zealand has won 6. So, the fight currently stands at 6-7 parity. However, India have yet to beat New Zealand on the World Cup stage.
In a press conference before the New Zealand match, Virat Kohli said that after the loss against Pakistan, there is a lot of criticism. Bad comments are being made about some of our cricketers, which is a very low quality job. We try to give our best on the field all the time. Every cricketer plays to the best of his ability for the country. We are confident. I am optimistic about turning around this time.
New Zealand is also desperate to turn against India. “India is a team with great rhythm,” said team pacer Trent Bolt. Fighting against them is hard all the time. We lost the first match. I am not thinking about the record against India in the World Cup. This is a new match. We are thinking anew. Hopefully we’ll turn around.
