The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the 15-member squad for the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup. The team is led by Jos Buttler as usual. Out-of-form opener Jason Roy has been dropped from the team. Jason Roy is not having a good time. This opener found himself lost in ‘The Hundred’ after international cricket this summer. So his omission was quite predictable.
Despite not playing T20 cricket after March 2021, Test captain Ben Stokes is in the World Cup team. Mark Wood and Chris Woakes are returning to the World Cup team after injury. David Malan is also in the World Cup team. He got the best game award in the T20 series against South Africa. This top order batsman is also in great form in The Hundred.
For the first time since 2014, England will play without Eoin Morgan in an ICC tournament. England’s 2019 ODI World Cup winning team captain retired from international cricket in June.
The 2022 T20 World Cup will be held in seven cities in Australia. The fight will start on October 16. The World Cup will end with the final on November 13. Before the World Cup, England will play a seven-match T20 series in Pakistan. Buttler, who was ruled out of the Hundred with a leg muscle injury, will not play in the first part of the series. Moeen Ali will lead England in his absence.
Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curren, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, David Malan, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Ben Stokes, Rich Topley, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
