At least that’s what the first half showed in the Red River Showdown at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas against Oklahoma.
Texas quarterback Case.y Thompson completed 10 of his 16 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns, aided by missed tackles by the Sooners defense and equally wide open receivers as the Longhorns raced out to a 28-7 lead. They racked up 345 yards of offense in taking a 38-20 cushion into halftime.
Thompson is the son of former Oklahoma quarterback Charles Thompson. While the elder Thompson was a good football player in his own right, guiding the Sooners’ wishbone attack in the late 80s, he is most famously remembered as being on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1989, sporting handcuffs and a prison jumpsuit after his arrest for selling cocaine to an FB.I undercover agent.
Longhorns quarterback Casey Thompson is the son of Charles Thompson, who played the same position for the Sooners in the 1980s.
Casey Thompson took over for Hudson Card, who won the job out of fall practice. Thompson entered the game with nine touchdowns and three interceptions as Texas attempts to win its fourth straight after a Week 2 loss to Arkansas.
