Sarjis Alam, the central coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has revealed that an investigation is ongoing regarding some controversial incidents that took place at Dhanmondi 32 in connection with the observance of Mourning Day (August 15).
During a press conference held at Dhaka University’s Amar Ekushey Hall on Friday (August 16) at around 11 AM, Sarjis emphasized that the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement cannot obstruct anyone who wishes to lay flowers at Dhanmondi 32 in observance of August 15. He further stated that action would be taken against those who created unrest at the location.
Sarjis Alam highlighted that in 2013, the Awami League had initiated a practice of forcing people to do sit-ups while holding their ears during a rally by Hefazat-e-Islam, facilitated by the police. However, he clarified that such actions do not align with the goals and values of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
He also addressed an incident involving an attack on the vehicle of Bongobir Kader Siddiqui, asserting that no one has the right to carry out such an attack. Sarjis warned that if any coordinator or other individual is found to be involved, they would face expulsion and legal action.
Furthermore, the central coordinator accused the Awami League and Chhatra League of possibly engaging in controversial activities in disguise in connection with the observance of August 15.
Additionally, Sarjis Alam urged students to withdraw from traffic duties, making it clear that their focus should remain on their academic responsibilities.
