Rafsan the Chotobhai fined 1.6 Million Taka over the unauthorized drink “BLU”

Popular YouTuber and food vlogger, Iftekhar Rafsan, known as “Rafsan the Chotobhai,” has been fined 1.6 million Taka by the Pure Food Court. Additionally, the court ordered the withdrawal of his unapproved drink “BLU” from the market within seven days.

This order was issued today, Wednesday, (August 28) by Judge Alaoul Akbar of the Pure Food Court. Rafsan stood in the court for about one and a half hours during the hearing.

On December 8 last year, Iftekhar Rafsan announced a new drink called “Blu” during a Facebook live session. The announcement sparked various discussions on social media. However, since the drink was marketed without proper authorization, a case was filed against him.

Food inspector Md. Kamrul Hasan, empowered by the Food Safety Authority, filed the case due to the unauthorized status of the “Blu” drink. In response, the court issued an arrest warrant against Rafsan on June 13 this year. Rafsan appeared in court on June 26 and obtained anticipatory bail through his lawyer.

Earlier, on April 24, an operation was conducted at the “Messrs Blu Drinks” factory located in the BSCIC area of Cumilla city. On May 17, the operation became viral on social media. At that time, Rafsan was fined 30,000 Taka for producing Blu drinks in a substandard manner at his factory.

It has been reported that the “Messrs Drink blu Beverage” company, located in the BSCIC industrial area of Cumilla, was producing “Electrolyte Drink” without obtaining the necessary packaging registration certificate.

Moreover, the drinks were being bottled without any measuring instruments in the factory. Due to packaging and marketing without registration, Iftekhar Rafsan was fined 30,000 Taka under section 41 of the “Weights and Measures Standards Act – 2018.”

Rafsan the Chotobhai is one of the country’s popular online content creators. His videos, primarily focused on food, receive significant attention.
