A2I Projects to be Discontinued: Advisor Nahid Islam

Md. Nahid Islam, Advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, has instructed the discontinuation of unnecessary projects under the A2I (Access to Information) program. He gave this directive during his visit to the A2I headquarters at the ICT Tower in Dhaka on Wednesday, September 4.

He emphasized that the work must honor the sacrifices made by those who fought for the creation of the new Bangladesh. He stressed that there should be no complaints regarding A2I’s operations.

Nahid Islam further stated that the initiatives taken by A2I must reach the people of the country, harnessing innovative power to engage the youth in the information technology sector. He mentioned the possibility of forming an advisory team consisting of Bangladeshi IT experts working abroad to guide and involve the country’s youth. He also noted that individual and group-based innovative efforts should be supported with proper advice to enhance their impact.

The advisor highlighted that multiple investigation committees have been formed to address allegations of irregularities and corruption within A2I. He insisted that these investigations must be conducted impartially and transparently.

Furthermore, Nahid Islam commented on the need for political and structural reforms in the country. He pointed out that the current state structure has become too centralized, with the Prime Minister holding extensive powers as granted by the Constitution. He expressed a desire to initiate discussions for changing this structure.

He concluded by reiterating the importance of working with respect for the sacrifices made by ordinary people during the mass uprising that led to the formation of the new Bangladesh, stressing that their contributions must be remembered in all efforts moving forward.
