Chattogram Shipyard Fire: Explosion Injures Six, Firefighters on High Alert

An explosion and subsequent fire broke out at a shipyard in Sitakunda, Chattogram. The incident took place while a ship was being dismantled, leaving six people severely burned and several others injured.

The Fire Service’s control room reported that the incident occurred around 12:30 PM at the SM Corporation yard in the Kumira area of Sitakunda. A loud explosion was heard during the shipbreaking process, followed by a fire. Two Fire Service units rushed to the scene upon receiving news of the blaze.

Officials at the SM Corporation yard stated that the six critically injured individuals had been sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment, while the others were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

The SM Corporation yard specializes in dismantling old ships purchased from abroad.
