Bangladesh vs India Test Match in Kanpur faces attack threat, Venue may be changed

After a clean sweep against Babar Azam’s team on Pakistani soil, the Bangladesh cricket team is in high spirits. The next target for Shakib, Mushfiqur, and their teammates is the tour of India. This month, the Tigers will play two Test matches and a three-match T20 series in the neighboring country.

However, the Hindu nationalist political party Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha has threatened to attack one of the upcoming T20 matches. Now, the group has also threatened to disrupt the second Test match, scheduled to be held in Kanpur.

According to BCCI sources reported by ABP Live, the Hindu Mahasabha has issued a threat against the visiting team for the second Test match in Kanpur. Dr. Jaiveer Bhardwaj, the vice-president of the Hindu Mahasabha, told reporters that they will try everything to get the match canceled. If the match goes ahead, they have threatened to launch an attack during the event.

Jaiveer Bhardwaj claimed, “Hindus are being massacred in Bangladesh, and temples are being destroyed. Despite this, Prime Minister Modi has decided to hold a match here. Therefore, the Hindu Mahasabha has decided to oppose the India-Bangladesh cricket match in Gwalior. To maintain peace, the match should be canceled; otherwise, unrest will spread in the country.”

This has caused growing concern within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While no official decisions have been announced yet, rumors are circulating that the venue might be changed. In that case, the second Test match could be moved from Kanpur to Indore.

The tour is set to begin on September 19 with the first Test match in Chennai. On September 27, the two teams will meet in Kanpur for the second and final Test. The first T20 will be held in Gwalior on October 6, followed by the second and third T20 matches on October 9 and 12, respectively.

Amid widespread student protests, the Awami League government was overthrown on August 5. On that day, Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister and fled to India. Since then, several Indian media outlets and social media platforms have reported attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. However, fact-checking has revealed that most of these reports were rumors and exaggerated.
