Schools, Colleges to Reopen on March 29

Educational institutions across Bangladesh will reopen on Sunday, March 29, after a long holiday for Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr. The break, which lasted about 40 days, will officially end on Thursday, March 26, according to the revised academic calendar.

However, regular classes will not start immediately. Friday and Saturday are weekly holidays, so all schools and colleges will resume academic activities from Sunday.

The holiday period began on February 19. Authorities had earlier announced that institutions from primary to higher secondary levels would remain closed until March 26.

During this period, the government also took additional steps to reduce energy use. On March 8, authorities decided to close all public and private universities due to the ongoing war in the Middle East and concerns over fuel and electricity supply. The decision followed a directive from Prime Minister Tarek Rahman.

As a result, universities, including University of Dhaka, suspended classes and exams from March 9. A notice from the university, issued in line with guidance from the Ministry of Education, confirmed closures until March 28.

With the holiday period ending, universities are also set to reopen on Sunday. Academic activities across all levels are expected to return to normal from that day.
