Facebook Messenger asks to set a PIN to access the chat history for the last 3 to 5 days. Users are getting a “Create a PIN to secure your messages” pop-up message while opening the messenger app on Android or iPhone.
You have been active on Facebook since last week, so there is a huge possibility that you have seen the Facebook Messenger PIN setup notification on the app. Not only you, but a large number of users are getting worried about it, whether it is a bug on the app or something else.
Basically, Facebook Messenger is Forcing you to set a PIN to secure your chat history including messages and calls. This is the new security on the platform that was announced at the end of December 2023. It will allow you to access the messages on another device by entering the 6-digit PIN.
For example, if your Facebook account is hacked or someone knows your password. Generally, they can access your chat history in the Inbox. But, if you enable a secure PIN on Messenger, it will provide you with end-to-end encryption. No one even you won’t be able to access the chat without the PIN.
Meta has rolled out the End-to-End Encryption on Messenger and Facebook. The company has added a new security layer to the platform for global users. However, the security was rolling out in the USA, UK, and other countries at the end of 2023. After that, a vast amount of Facebook users saw the message on the Messenger app that forced them to create a PIN.
As per the report, Meta has announced the End-to-End Encryption on Messenger. A blog post was published by Loredana Crisan, Head of Messenger on December 6, 2023. However, the testing was started on August 22, 2023. “Millions more people’s chats on Messenger will be upgraded to stronger encryption standards as part of our ongoing end-to-end encryption (E2EE) testing,” said Timothy Buck.
