Govt sets 12-member committees for primary schools

The government has set a new structure for managing committees in government primary schools across Bangladesh. Each committee will now have 12 members. The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued the policy on March 16.

The ministry later published the notification on its official website on March 17. The new policy took effect immediately after the order.

Under the policy, the head teacher of the school will serve as member secretary. Two nominated guardian representatives will join the committee. One must be female and one must be male. Both must have passed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam.

The committee will also include four elected guardian members. Two will be male and two will be female. One elected member will represent the teachers.

The land donor of the school, or a legal heir, will also be a member. Another member will come from a local secondary school, madrasa, or MPO-listed institution. MPO refers to institutions that receive government salary support for teachers.

A Union Parishad member will join the committee. For schools in municipal areas, a ward commissioner will take this role.

The ministry said all previous orders on managing committees are now cancelled. The new policy also replaces earlier rules on committee duties and responsibilities.

Officials say the policy aims to bring clear structure to school management. The new committees will now operate under this updated framework.
